POLARIZED
SUNGLASSES

What are polarized sunglasses
Polarized sunglasses have polarized lens, filters with the
transmission axis oriented vertically to block the light
reflected by flat surfaces. In other words polarized
lenses block light that is magnified by flat surfaces like
water and pavement.
What is the difference between
polarized sunglasses and normal sunglasses?
Normal sunglasses decrease
the intensity of brightness on everything by the same
amount. Polarized sunglasses selectively eliminate the
reflection from glare magnified by flat surfaces like
water and pavement.
Can polarized sunglasses help
when driving a car?
Polarized sunglasses are great for blocking the bright
reflections of the sun on the cars ahead. The anti-glare
power of polarized sunglasses is especially useful when
the reflection of the bright sun hits a wet road. The
amount of polarization depends upon the angle of the sun
on the cars and pavement. If the sun is in front, behind,
or high above, the road brightness will tend to be
horizontally polarized and the filter of the sunglasses
will block the glare.
How do I know if my sunglasses
are polarized?
Look through your sunglasses at the reflection of any
object on a window pane (do not look directly at
yourself, you have to look at an angle to the glass).
Then, rotate the sunglasses 90 degrees, almost all
reflected sunlight should be blocked. They are not
polarized, if the intensity of the reflection doesn't
change with respect to what you see through the window,
